Communiqué from Amazigh Association of Australia
We are a
newly formed community group called “Amazigh
Association of Australia” in Sydney and would like to
introduce this culture to the Australian society.
The
association is non-political and non-religious and
seeks to promote the North African Berber culture in
harmony with the people of Australia.
We
have organised a festival on 16/05/09
at Leichhardt Town Hall, Sydney,
Australia to celebrate the Berber spring. The
festival included
singers such as Massa Bouchafa and
Moh Alileche, an art
exhibition organised by our
sponsor
Berbero Saharan Handicraft,
a short movie projection
produced by Hacene Zennia, a
dinner with Seksu/couscous and Algerian cakes.
We also honoured the indigenous people of Australia
in inviting an Aboriginal group to perform their
traditional dance and welcome the Amazigh community
of the Australian soil and finally a representative
of the Leichhardt council "Alan Cinis" has spoken
about and welcome the Amazigh community to Australia.
We will be launching our
website
www.amazigh-association.com.au shortly where we
can put more details of the festival with photos and
a short video.
We
have planned two more activities
next year, and we appreciate any assistance
professionally and financially.
