Les grandes villes comme Tlemcen, Constantine ont conservé le savoir faire de tannerie artisanal (debbaghines), mais actuellement ce savoir faire se perd face à la concurrence des cuirs traités en Europe13.L'artisanat des touaregs en ce domaine présente des originalités comme le taghallabt ; un objet en forme de porte feuille ou aghreg le sac de voyage, le cuir de la région provient des chèvres ou des dromadaires. Il est coloré d'oxyde de cuivre lui donnant des teintes vertes et orné de symboles inspirés de l'alphabet tifinagh.En Kabylie les peaux de mouton et de chèvre sont aussi transformées parfois pour faire des outres et des sacs de voyage sans décoration.Actuellement le secteur du cuir algérien est en pleine crise et nécessite une réhabilitation face à la mondialisation et une concurrence sévère (Inspiration de Wikipedia.org)
